The sun shone on the ride out to the mainland last Tuesday and for one minute I thought I was on the road to Damascus not the Isle of Lewis ferry. 

Not so for the journey back yesterday. Rain and wind all the way from Brampton to Ullapool in a car packed to the gunwales with a mother, mother-in-law, a big go away greyhound and all associated luggage and xmas presents!

We drove onto the ferry at 5pm only to be informed that the boat wouldn't be sailing until midnight with a 3am arrival in Stornoway - not because the sea was rough (it was a 'smoothish' crossing once we got going), but because of the 'wrong swell in Stornoway harbour for berthing' - sounds like Calmac have been having anouncement lessons from British Rail!
